The Association of Fertilizer and Phosphate Chemist awarded three (3) $100 cash awards to the Senior Section students and six (6) $35 cash awards to the Junior Section students whose research relates to the phosphate industry and chemistry related issues in the 49th Annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida. The awards were given on April 16, 2004 at the Prime Osborn III Convention Center in Jacksonville, Florida.

 

A $35 award was given to Cody M. Fisette on the project "Will Different Levels of Nitrogen Affect Plant Growth?"(J0220). The teacher was Mrs. Dorothy Clouser at the St. Teresa Catholic School in Titusville.

A $35 award was given to Sheree M. Pantuso on the project "Do Different Fertilizers Increase the Brix Level (%Sucrose) of Tomatoes on Tomato Plants?"(JO225). The teacher was Mrs. Nancy Hosie of Lincoln Park Academy in Ft. Pierce. (No picture)

A $100 award was given to Courtney Rumala on the project "The Effect of Nitrogen Levels on the Protein Synthesis of Bacillus thuringienis in Zea mays 1. (SO332). The teachers was Ms. Amy Emmert at the Westgate Christain Academy of Springhill.

A $35 award was given to Graham F. Morris on the project "Effects of Fertilizers on the Number of Blooms on A Bush Bears Plants. (JO313. The teacher was Mrs. Rebecca Nichols of McKeel Academy of Technology in Lakeland.

A $100 award was given to Drew F. Chesanek on the project "Is Polluting Our Water Par for the Course?" (SO818). The teacher was Dr. Larry Gaudioso of Bradenton Academy of Bradenton.

A $100 award was given to Patrick L. Geer on the project "Phosphorous Removal from Everglades Agricultural Area Farm Drainage Water: A Fourth Year Study." (SO839). The teacher was Mrs. Ann Henderson from Wellington Community High School in Palm Beach. Note: This is the third year the AFPC has awarded Patrick Geer with this award.

A $35 award was given to Steven R. McCommon on the project "An Environmental Study to Determine if Nutrient Dynamics Caused by Eutrophication Affect Local Esturaine Ecosystems" (JO826). The teacher was Mrs. Rebecca Schryer of Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Merritt Island.

A $35 award was given to Sonia Shah on the project " The Effects of Phosphorus on the Enzyme Activity of Periphyton.(JO828). The teacher was Mrs. Sandra Willima of Lecanto Middle School in Lecanto.

A $35 award was given to Kenna Josephine Valdovinos on the project "How Do Acid Rain and Agricultural Runoff Affect Root Growth and Leaf Ratio of Plant Cuttings in Water?" (JO832). The teacher was Mrs. Kathleen Poe of Fletcher Middle School of Jacksonville Beach.
